Tropicana Hotel staff received mixed information Tuesday about when the hotel will close as the Oakland Athletics close the hotel.Plans for Las Vegas' baseball stadium continue to take shape.
An FAQ released Monday by Tropicana owner Bally's Corp. told employees the property would close within 18 to 24 months if Group A can secure $395 million in public funding from the Legislature.
However, in an "Updated FAQ" document shared on Tuesday, the company softens most of its statements. The company said it plans to keep the property open "to the extent practicable" and that if it closes, employees will have other opportunities in the Bally portfolio.
Bally's Corp. Representative said Monday's FAQ was "published prematurely and inaccurately".
"The FAQs issued today accurately convey the current situation," the spokesperson said in an email. "Plans for the recently announced agreement with the Oakland Athletics are in a very preliminary stage and our current focus is on continuing to operate Tropicana Stadium. We will stand ready to support Tropicana workers if the need arises."

On Tuesday, the company said it plans to develop a new resort that will carry the Bally name on the rest of the land. According to an updated FAQ, the company said employees at the Tropicana Las Vegas hotel will be given hiring priority and will retain seniority.

The president of Bally's Corp. Soo Kim told the Review-Journal on Sunday that the company is still deciding whether to close the property completely or in phases.
"I think the general idea is to build the stadium first and not rush to develop the rest of it," King said. "But I think it will depend on a lot of different factors."
culinary allianceIn a statement Tuesday, Bally's noted that the company has a "strong" union contract with Tropicana workers and expects Bally's to ensure those workers' rights are respected during the potential closing.
Culinary Union Secretary and Treasurer Ted Pappageorge said the cooks and bartenders union has represented hundreds of workers at the Tropicana since it opened in 1957.
"The culinary union will ensure the protection of workers and their jobs and the observance of contracts," he said in a statement.
